modern architect los angeles
Los Angeles is a city defined by light, spaciousness, and a strong connection to the outdoors, the ideal setting for our modern luxury homes. As Los Angeles modern architects, we design contemporary houses across the city, with projects in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades, the Hollywood Hills, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Encino, and surrounding neighborhoods. We work closely with our Los Angeles clients to create custom resort style homes perfect for the L.A. lifestyle, with sports and entertainment areas, smart technologies, expansive views, infinity pools, sustainable systems, home theaters, fire and water features, and seamless indoor outdoor living spaces.
After years of working as a modern architect in Los Angeles, we understand the city’s unique challenges: steep hillsides, complex view corridors, coastal microclimates, extreme dryness and heat, HOA’s, and the desire for both privacy and views in populated neighborhoods. We provide full-service architectural support for the wide range of sites and conditions found throughout L.A., and approach each project with practical expertise, and a modern design sensibility. We also work with land use consultants, engineers, and permit expediters familiar with local jurisdictions, in order to streamline the process. We’re happy to work anywhere in the region, no matter the complexity. Whether a hillside property or private neighborhood lot, every home design is customized to the specific goals and lifestyles of our clients. In addition to residential projects, we also work with Los Angeles developers on high-end spec houses, and have experience designing homes that stand out in L.A.’s competitive market.

trousdale
Set within the Trousdale Estates in Beverly Hills, our Trousdale house is a modern light filled home that frames views through a pivot-style all-glass front door, and glass walls at the rear. Panoramic vistas stretch from the swimming pool and patio, to L.A.’s rolling green hills beyond. The project exemplifies our living small approach, with a central open volume topped by a skylight, which creates a light filled anti-basement, and allows for “a visual connection along the different axes within the house, reminders of where you are going and where you have been…”
laurel way
Sited high up in Beverly Hills, Laurel Way is a luxury residential estate full of jewel box interiors, fire and water features, and modern indoor outdoor living spaces. Wrapped in three curving tiers of greenery, and two water channels, the home has the look and feel of an island floating against the California sky. The swimming pool, a moat-style river of water, adds a floating tranquility to the landscape, and protects the perimeter, without obstructing the views, which on a clear day, stretch all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
beverly crest
Perched on a slope in Beverly Hills, on a lot without a single flat pad on it, Beverly Crest emerges not as a monolith, but as a rhythmic series of terraced levels, each responding to the topography, setback, and sun. A three-story stack was prohibited by L.A.’s geology and code; so instead, the modern home steps elegantly down the hill, revealing five distinct levels that blend into the terrain like architecture in dialogue with earth. It’s a luxury Los Angeles retreat with resort style outdoor living spaces, expansive views, a swimming pool, golf putting green, and basketball court.
benedict canyon 2023
It’s always fun to see the evolution of our projects, as they change hands with new ownership. The original client for Benedict Canyon wanted a luxury open-plan home for entertaining. Seven years later, and in new hands, the original bones are still in place, the landscape is more mature, and the rooms have been repurposed to suit the needs of the new owners. A light filled, glass wall yoga studio and workout room with views, and a home office are some of the new additions made to this modern resort style Los Angeles home.
benedict canyon 2016
The original client for our Benedict Canyon 2016 house in Beverly Hills is from the sports world, and he wanted a modern home for entertaining, that would also include a photography studio, and gallery for hanging his large scale artworks. Indoor outdoor living and a great view, both essential to the west coast lifestyle, completed the design. Guest bedrooms open onto the backyard pool terrace, and a large rooftop deck above the family room features ping-pong, lounge chairs for sunning, and a ledger stone fireplace to warm the nights.
summit house
A modern family home in Beverly Hills, Summit House features double height glass walls, extensive solar power, a gray-water reclamation system, and sound passive-solar design elements, making it the first house permitted under the city of Beverly Hills’ Green Building Ordinance. Our clients for this project are a family of art lovers with an extensive art collection, who were intent on staying closely connected in their new home, despite the spaciousness of the design. So we applied our ‘living small’ concept, creating an open floor plan with sight lines and view corridors between the floating levels and rooms, allowing the members of the home to stay visually connected throughout the multi-level space.
summitridge drive
On an acre of land atop a ridge high up in Beverly Hills, Summitridge Drive looks out on jetliner views of Los Angeles’ canyons and city lights. The home has the feel of a residential boutique hotel, with custom designed and crafted furniture, indoor outdoor living spaces, water features, a private guest house, outdoor gym, home theater, cigar lounge, and rooftop terrace with fireplace, tv, and spa.

Sliding glass walls in the living room, family room, and kitchen open to a backyard pool terrace, while the primary bedroom suite connects to an upper level sun deck via a private Ipe wood walkway. Double height ceilings in the living room open to a second-floor skylight that illuminates the upstairs, and floods the lower level with light. It’s an L.A. style home with modern amenities, and a functionality that makes living in 7,500 sq. ft feel like 15,000.
